VNIIFTRI actively participates in meetings of the Working Groups of the Consultive Committee of the International Committee of Weights and Measures
Moscow Region, November 06, 2024 – Specialists from the Russian Metrological Institute of Technical Physics and Radio Engineering (VNIIFTRI) of Rosstandart took part in meetings of the working groups on gas (GAWG), electrochemical (EAWG) and inorganic (IAWG) analyses of the Consultive Committee on the Amount of Substance: Metrology in Chemistry and Biology (CCQM) of the International Committee of Weights and Measures (CIPM).
"VNIIFTRI is an observer of the Consultive Committee on the Amount of Substance: Metrology in Chemistry and Biology of the International Committee of Weights and Measures (CCQM CIPM) and takes part in the activities of four Working Groups (WG) under the Committee. The last meetings of the WG on Electrochemical (EAWG), Gas (GAWG) and Inorganic (IAWG) analyses highlighted the state of current work, issues of developing and improving scientific measurement methods, prospects and initiatives for international cooperation. It is extremely important to maintain scientific ties and an interdisciplinary approach in order to achieve more accurate, reliable and comparable measurement results at the global level," noted Vladimir Dobrovolsky, Head of the Research Department of Physico-Chemical and Electrical Measurements at FSUE VNIIFTRI.
At the meeting of the Working Group on Gas Analysis (GAWG), VNIIFTRI experts took part in the discussion of the WG's strategy for the period 2025-2034, including future plans in the field of aerosol parameter measurements in order to obtain equivalence of results, improvement of gas analysis procedures, and considered the development and improvement of isotopic composition analysis methods, including carbon and oxygen isotope measurements in carbonates and the atmosphere, as well as international cooperation initiatives.
During the meeting of the CCQM Electrochemical Analysis Working Group (EAWG), issues related to current comparisons, including those taking place within regional metrological organizations, problems and opportunities for improving electrochemical research methods, results of studies related to the calibration and standardization of methods for measuring the pH of seawater and lithium-ion batteries, as well as work plans for 2024-2026 were discussed.
During the meeting of the Inorganic Analysis Working Group (IAWG), issues such as review of the activities of the group members and participation in comparisons, their coordination; updating information on current studies such as CCQM-K144/P182 (trace elements in aluminum oxide powder), CCQM-K155/P196 (elements and tributyltin in seawater), CCQM-K158/P200 (elements and inorganic arsenic in rice), as well as the plans and proposals of the WG participants for conducting new research.
CCQM Working Group meetings are a platform for sharing cutting-edge scientific achievements and strengthening international cooperation. Active participation of VNIIFTRI in the work of the Consultive Committee Working Groups (CCQM) of BIPM makes it possible to ensure and support Russia's interests in the development and implementation of innovative methods that promote sustainable development and improve measurement accuracy in various fields of science and technology.
