VNIIFTRI and PTB continue scientific cooperation

Moscow Region, October 1, 2019 — On the 25^th of September, representatives from the National Metrology Institute of Germany (PTB) visited VNIIFTRI to discuss current and prospective issues of cooperation within the framework of the Scientific Cooperation Program between the Federal Agency on Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) and PTB. The PTB was represented by Moritz Ackermann, Project Coordinator, and Andrey Surzhykov, Director of the Fundamental Physics for Metrology institute at PTB.

«The Scientific Cooperation Program between Rosstandart and PTB has been implemented since 2008, and every year we meet with our German colleagues to discuss priority directions for future metrology development. Most importantly, we discuss issues related to the introduction of metrology technologies into industry and the social sphere, especially in the context of the current digital transformation of the economy», said Sergei Donchenko, General Director of VNIIFTRI.

The delegates were given a tour of VNIIFTRI standard facilities and the working laboratories of the Main Metrological Center of the State Service of Time, Frequency and Determination of the Earth Rotation Parameters, as well as the laboratories of the scientific research departments for metrology in mechanics, thermodynamics and construction; physicochemical and electrical measurements; development and operation of the means of metrological support for coordinate-time and navigation systems; and metrology of radio-technical and electromagnetic measurements.

A special focus in the discussion of future cooperation was placed on the need to conduct studies into transfer of standard frequencies and time signals over fiber-optic lines using advanced digital technologies.

Within the cooperation program, VNIIFTRI and PTB collaborate in the fields of high pressure studies, comparison of national nanoindentation standards, low-temperature measurement, time scale comparisons, bilateral comparisons of pH and pX measurements, measurement of the parameters of the gravitational field with highly stable time and frequency standards, etc.

The Rosstandart and PTB Cooperation Program involves the participation of six Russian state scientific and metrological institutes, with over 60 scientific research works currently in progress.
