Research department of metrology of hydrophysical measurements (NIO-5)

The Research Department of Metrology of Hydrophysical Measurements (NIO-5) is a structural subdivision of FSUE «VNIIFTRI» and the head organization for metrological support of hydrophysical, hydroacoustic and geophysical measurements.

The main functions of the department:

  • development,creation and operation of standards of hydrophysical, hydroacoustic and geophysical quantities;
  • calibration, verification and certification of measuring instruments for various organizations, development of regulatory documents for methods and means of calibration, verification;
  • tests for type approval of measuring instruments, metrological examination, certification of measurement procedures;
  • development and production of new types of hydroacoustic measuring transducers;
  • carrying out research and development works aimed at creating reference and measuring equipment for metrological support of hydrophysical measurements;
  • carrying out fundamental and applied research aimed at improving the system for ensuring the uniformity of measurements of hydrophysical quantities;
  • conducting research to identify new physical effects in order to use them in creating new and improving existing measuring instruments;
  • creation, production and supply of standards and measuring instruments,provision of metrological services, creation of knowledge intensive technologies and products.

Key objectives of NIO-5:

  • participation in state regulation in the field of ensuring the uniformity of measurements in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation in terms of hydrophysical (hydroacoustic) measurements;
  • development and improvement of state standards in the field of hydrophysical (hydroacoustic) measurements;
  • participation in the implementation of scientific and technical policy of the state in the field of ensuring the uniformity of measurements in the Russian Federation in terms of metrological support of hydrophysical (hydroacoustic and geoacoustic) measurements.
